Marrakech Me Ousside, How BRIDE (Bow) Dah?
Have you ever wanted to get paid to travel?? That has been my dream. I type this blog post while sitting in a restaurant in Denver waiting to do makeup on a client and then fly back home to LA all on the same day. I love being a Destination Makeup Artist, going to Marrakech Morocco for my Indian/Portuguese bride Soraiya was phenomenal. Have to agree that having a schedule that changes every day does NOT get monotonous.
…PIVOT…
I recently took a trip to Morroco because I was booked by a bride to do her 5-day wedding extravaganza in Marrakech. The trip was beyond my expectations and there are so many highlights to share. The keyword for the trip, however…was PIVOT. If anything could have gone wrong, it did….
-Casablanca was the worst airport ever and my flight was delayed 8 hours…pivot the beer was ice cold and I eventually made it to the hotel
-The airline lost my luggage and my hair and makeup kit…pivot it arrived the next day
-I arrived after the first event…pivot the bride did her own hair and makeup and looked gorgeous
-The generator caught a palm tree on fire at one of the venues before the bride and groom arrived…pivot 150 guests were then bussed to another venue…

Hottest Wedding in Marrakech
Pivot I got my henna done and then the fire department cleared the venue and we returned to the original location…we ate, drank and danced all night with a few selfies

My selfie light was loved by the photogs!
-The night of the desert dinner there was a sandstorm….they had to put the camels away…pivot we ended up at Teatro nightclub with dancing Furries
-2 out of the 5 nights we were out until 4 am and I had to do makeup at 6 am…pivot Oh snap I’m a dinosaur and can still pull an all-nighter!
Needless to say, a positive attitude was a must. With every single turn of events, we would PIVOT and by doing so we found moments to laugh, to smile, to feel beautiful and celebrate such a momentous and love filled occasion. I’ve done over 500 weddings…and this was one of the best weddings ever!

LE JARDIN MAJORELLE
Most of all, my favorite place in Marrakech is Le Jardin Majorelle, I always get inspiration there for makeup ideas, The royal blue, emerald greens, vibrant yellows, and terracotta are an amazing color palette.

Furthermore, the art gallery at Yves Saint Laurent’s residence reminds me a lot of Matisse and Basquiat who are two of my favorite artists. Taking a painting and my surroundings and translating that into a look is something I try to evoke in my artistry. Challenging myself to find a way to create what I’ve seen, into something wearable and still beautiful.
BAHIA PALACE
For the first time, I was able to go to Bahia Palace which was built in the late 19th century. The name means “brilliance”. There is a 2-acre (8,000 m²) garden with rooms opening onto courtyards and beautiful gardens. The detail in the woodwork, tiling, and paint was an OCD dream destination for me.

Bahia Palace
Due to the fact that I am very detailed when it comes to my makeup, I like my work to look effortless yet perfect. That’s exactly what I saw at Bahia Palace. It was so grandiose and I wish I had more time to explore but work was calling and my bride needed me to get her ready for the day. So after a quick paced walk around the Palace, it was time to get back in a taxi and head to the Fairmont Marrakech.

THE MAKEUP
As a result, creating looks for my bride was something we had planned in advance based on her outfits and each day/night of events…The photographers Natan and Ester captured everything beautifully! Take a look at what I created and if you see something you love, there are links below to purchase.

ESSAOUIRA
I would be remiss if I didn’t add my most favorite destination in Morocco and that would be in the beach city of Essaouira at Villa Anouk. Have you ever wanted to go swimming in East Africa?? Well, this amazing boutique hotel has an indoor pool and only a ten-minute drive will lead you to a 26km beach untouched by man. A 7 bedroom villa built in the Moroccan Beldi tradition, made entirely of wood and stone with thatched wood ceilings is the perfect destination for anyone wanting an enchanting retreat, event or vacation.
